I can’t believe I stumbled upon Ferguson Gallery and got to make my very own glass bowl. On our way to Put-in-Bay I saw glass shop on one of those green signs that mention local attractions when you enter a town. I remember thinking that would be cool to check out and made a mental note. We didn’t have time that day, but the next day we went back and made the glass shop our first stop. I was amazed when I walked through the door. I’m not someone who has really thought much about glass before this day, but for some reason I was intrigued and couldn’t get enough. I was debating between a couple different bowls and the decision of actually shelling out a good chunk of cash for one piece. Don’t get me wrong, I have absolutely no problem paying for a original piece of art. I knew I was getting a piece I just didn’t know if it was going to be that day. Soon after one of the employees told me that if I had 45 minutes I could help make my own bowl. I could pick the colors and it would be cheaper than the similar size bowls they had on display. Sold. Sign me up! She did and we got started… In the only close toed shoes I had with me. Neon Nikes it is.
If you are ever in Ohio near Marblehead you have to check out Ferguson Gallery. The people are sweet and crazy talented. They have some pieces that have multiple pieces inside of them. I’m still not sure how they keep form inside the hot exterior as they build the layers. Thank you to Cary and his staff for offering such a cool experience and sharing their talent with me. I had a blast!
Have you ever made a glass bowl or bought beautiful blown glass? I have a feeling this won’t be my last glass art purchase.
