A couple of weeks ago we ended up on an island. The Welder had a long weekend (2.5 days) off so we decided to get out of town and head north. We decided all this within a couple hours, so we decided where we wanted to end up and where we would stay on the way. We ended up in Sandusky, Ohio during bike week. Yup, cause why would we end up anywhere on a non busy weekend. Two years ago we visited Niagara Falls on the second busiest weekend of the year (because it was when we were off). I guess it is just suppose to happen and we are just suppose to pay way too much for a crappy hotel. Whatever. Read on if your interested in what we did. Scroll down if your just here for the pictures. I don’t blame you. Or if crappy video is your thing go here.
Friday evening we settled into our room and grabbed dinner from a place I found on TripAdvisor. I have never really used the site until then and that was a mistake. We followed the dining recommendations all weekend and were never let down. The Brick Oven Bistro had the best pizza I’ve ever eaten in my life. I’m not kidding. It was thin crust, but still “fluffy.” It was brick oven, but not crunchy. You could taste the fresh ingredients. I was blown away.
We finished up the evening by driving around the shore line and to Cedar Point.
The next day we headed off to Put-in-Bay. We used the Miller Ferry to cross Lake Erie, but don’t think we didn’t consider the Jet Express. Once we got there we rented a golf cart and hit the road. We have never explored a beach community before, but we imagine it being similar to what we experienced there. Cute shops, restaurants with outdoor seating (dogs allowed), The Boardwalk, adorable houses with American flags, vintage cars, beautiful skies, and water as far as you could see. We enjoyed lunch on The Boardwalk and frozen yogurt later in the afternoon. Paisley was along for the whole trip of course. I was surprised at how many people knew what breed she was. We would be cruising down the road and someone would yell “corgi!” Multiple times this happened. Paisley even met a sweet girl who wants a corgi of her own when we gets back home to Bulgaria! My dog has more culture in her life than most adults I know. For real — get out and about people.
We also visited Perry’s Victory and International Peace Memorial. At the top we saw beautiful views of the bay and could see Canada in the distance. I can now say I’ve taken pictures standing on an object higher than Lady Liberty. This is the second time we have seen Canada. I swear we will cross the boarder one day. The atmosphere on this little island was contagious and we soaked up every minute we could before hopping back on the ferry. For dinner we decided on the best steakhouse around. It is called the Angry Bull Steakhouse and I can tell you the bull is the only angry one around there. Fantastic service and great steak! I can say that because I ate the sirloin cooked medium rare which they tried to hand to Austin when they delivered our food. This has happened a lot recently. Why do they assume the girl didn’t order the steak? I got my baked potato plain with everything on the side, shouldn’t that give it away? We have a good laugh every time this happens. Well, I do. Austin doesn’t like my jokes about how he doesn’t appreciate a good steak, cooked the right way. I blame my raising.
Sunday we did some more driving around. We stumbled upon the best popcorn shop. Just kidding, I actually found it on purpose. We did come across a local glass shop. Once inside I learned I could make my own bowl if I had 45 minutes. It was awesome. The popcorn shop and glass bowl will be coming in a post soon. I’ll quit talking now, so you can enjoy the view. And not just the one you see below, scroll on. However if you are interested in that view it is featured twice. Just sayin’.
