Yesterday was one of those typical travel days. You know the ones. The ones where you get to bed late the night before and are running on a couple hours of sleep. The ones where you don’t have your normal setup so everything you end up needing isn’t with you, even though you have carried “all the things” around with you for two years and have never used them. The ones where your in a time crunch and end up 3 hours behind schedule because something broke. The ones where your saving grace to a electrical malfunction on your rear drive side jack is a cheap plastic adapter (what the hell was that company thinking). The ones like yesterday. I don’t know why I was under the impression that “running” our camper over to Indiana from Pennsylvania and coming back in one day wouldn’t require at least one mishap.
The first two years of our travels were rough. It seemed like every time we were headed somewhere it was always in a hurry and something would always break. It was frustrating to say the least, but in hindsight yielded some of our best memories. Like the time Austin’s transmission went out and we ended up outside of St. Louis for a week or the time Austin’s clutch went out and he was stuck on the side of the road on his way home from Colorado and had to call in two favors to get him home (one was in South Dakota and the other in Oklahoma – he set there awhile). Shit happens. Traveling has taught us to not sweat the small stuff and just choose to have a good time no matter what we are doing. Consequently we have just about as much fun broke down as we do doing your typical “fun” stuff. We were over yesterdays incident before we had even solved the problem.
Sure, we dramatically complain and talk a big game, but once you get to know us you will know that we are only telling the story to get a laugh. Come laugh with us. Life is fun and interesting and we love that about it. We hope you too can see the beauty in everything you do. Have fun. Laugh. Smile. Make stupid faces. Use your sister-in-laws hair dryer without asking and hope it’s not her good one. *cough* AUSTIN!
